Let me tell you, this is such a pleasure and an honour. These days I find it difficult to pick up a traditionally published book after exploring the treasures in the world of self-publishing. From now until New Year’s Eve, I’m going to showcase my favourites. If your book is not on here, it doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy it. It’s been a very difficult decision choosing these books! They’re also not in any particular order. Right, is that all my disclaimers out of the way with? I hope so! Baker\u2019s Rise Mysteries by R. A. Hutchins\u00a0 This is such a lovely cosy mystery! And as you can probably tell from the titles, it’s full of witty puns. We follow Flora as she inherits property in Baker’s Rise. However, once she arrives, she realises the village is not quite as idyllic as it first appeared! My Review Here Today, Scone Tomorrow (Book One) What a lovely, cosy mystery filled with lots of witty puns! A great setting filled with lots of ‘interesting’ characters. I really enjoyed the addition of Reggie the parrot – a very quirky addition to the story. Would have loved a little more development on some of the relationships. Very much looking forward to book 2! Pie Comes Before a Fall (Book Two) I loved picking up book 2 in the Baker’s Rise Mysteries series. The familiar characters were welcoming, and I found myself quickly sucked into the story. As Flora finds herself faced with another mystery we learn a little more about the habitants of Baker Rise. My favourite character has to be Reggie, with his sass and sudden protective nature! A lovely cosy book and I’m looking forward to reading the next one. Other books that I’ve read by Hutchins Counting Down to Christmas\u00a0 A lovely collection of Christmas Stories to curl up with. There’s a variety of romances all of which will leave you with a smile on your face. I loved that every story was unique focuses on a wide range of characters and different approaches to romance\/relationship. For me, although they were short stories they were perhaps a little too short! Would have loved to get to know the characters a little more. In saying that, the author has done a wonderful job of creating multifaceted characters in such short stories. To Find a Feather (Found in Fife Book One) This book is an emotional roller coaster that deals with grief and guilt. From the first few pages I was hooked as the MC appealed to me with her mental health problems. The book followed her as she went through tough times and struggled with the consequences. Romance blossoms as two lost souls find each other. This story deals with some difficult topics but does it seamlessly. The description is wonderful and I was whisked away to Scotland. An easy read with some hard hitting topics. A Stroke of Luck (Found in Fife Book Two) This was one of those books that you finish without even noticing it! I loved the ease of the writing and how well it flowed. The relationship between the two MCs was heartbreaking and heart warming in equal measures. I found myself tearing up a number of times as the topics of loss and heartbreak came up. The setting was beautiful and wonderfully described. I love that Hutchins weaves her romances around the brutal realities of life and mental health. Excited for the next book in the Found in Fife series. A wonderful read that I would highly recommend.
