It tells the story of Alba, a woman who is running away from a terrible marriage and finds herself working for a clan of vampires who live under a graveyard. The vampires live a secluded existence and are still stuck in their obsolete ways, which makes it a challenge for them to live together—at least in the beginning. Of course she falls in love with one of them… but you will have to read the book to know the rest.

Witch’s Mirror is the sequel to Stray Witch, and it’s coming out around Halloween 2020.

Where did you get the inspiration for Alba and Clarence?

Alba and Clarence are fictional characters (even though they have become somehow real for me after a while together). Alba is the prototype of a woman who has suffered emotional abuse from her partner for years and has a very low self-esteem. She doesn’t believe in herself, and her behaviour reflects that. Clarence is the man who tries to help her overcome those fears, although he has a good amount of demons himself. We will learn more about Clarence’s past in the second book, Witch’s Mirror.

What was your favourite scene to write?

I love writing romantic scenes and putting my characters in ridiculous situations. For example, I loved writing the chapter where Alba and Clarence climb on the roof of a church to admire the view and have a heart-to-heart talk. I think it features a pleasant mixture of humour and a certain degree of romantic tension.

If you were a vampire, like Clarence, what animal would you like to shift into?

My vampires only shift into ravens. At least for now…

What aspect of writing a book do you find the most difficult?

The editing phase can be very tedious, but it’s very rewarding, too. Maybe the worst thing is finding time to write.

Where’s your favourite place to write?

I usually write from home, but I wouldn’t be against typing my stories somewhere more magical if I could!

If you were a witch, what spell would be your favourite?

Oh, so many! I would love to become invisible or stop time. Or maybe time-travel? Mind-reading? I have plenty of ideas! Sadly, I can’t do any of those things… yet..

How has social media influenced/ affected your writing?

I use social media to connect with my readers and with fellow writers. It has helped me meet many wonderful people. We support each other, read and critique our drafts, etc. I think it’s a beautiful side of being an author, as long as you don’t spend too much time managing your SM.

If you could change one thing about the process of writing your first book, what would it be?

Not sure about the process itself, but sometimes I wish I had done a few things differently. I would change certain scenes or the way a character reacted to something. But then again, we must decide when a book is done and it’s time to move on to the next one. Otherwise our novels would never be finished!

You can find Eva on Twitter.

Author Spotlight with Eva Alton (Author Spotlights are for authors that I know and therefore I can ask questions more tailored to them and their writing) *This post contains affiliate links* Like the other authors in my Author Spotlights, I met Eva on Twitter.
