Tells us about your writing/ published book(s)

I got into writing as a teenager, just loved writing sketches, Star Wars. Star Trek, the usual popular culture stuff.

I always had ideas for books but couldn’t see how I’d get them published.

I started posted sketches on various internet forums about superheroes and I got a lot of positive feedback which encouraged me to carry on.

I eventually collected & published those sketches as 2 volumes of Sex & Spandex.

I realised I need to create original characters and storylines. so that’s what I focused on.

The first prose book was Santa Clown which eventually became a trilogy with Santa Down & Santa Flown; the finale title is actually a tongue-twister.

I also did a range of different contemporary books, focusing on the Anglo-South Asian experience, both in the UK & Pakistan.

The biggest undertaking has been the Charlotte Holmes mysteries, a re-imagining of the Great Detective and his partner as Charlotte Holmes, a traumatized woman, and her companion Dr Watan, an Indian doctor, as they investigate nefarious activities and a conspiracy to bring down the British Empire at the dawn of the 20th century.

In A Christmas in Calcutta, Charlotte, a brilliant yet erratic polymath, is escaping from an enforced confinement whilst being pursued relentlessly by her husband when she encounters Dr Watan on board the Calcutta Tiger Express.

In A Passover in Peshawar, our heroes undertake an epic, perilous journey to the Khyber Pass to thwart foreign agents, foil a blood-thirsty Warlord and determine the provenance of a miracle child, prophesied to herald the End of the World.

In A Berth to Bombay, Charlotte & Watan continue their adventures as they deal with a supernatural event as the pregnancy becomes dangerous for both mother and child when she is haunted by the ghost of her dead child.

In The Whore of Lahore, our heroes investigate a new courtesan who may be a Maharaja’s illegitimate daughter and discover the terrible secret of the Graveyard of Girls. Old adversaries make an unwelcome return as loyalties are tested and friendships are shattered in the conclusion of the Calcutta Quartet of the Charlotte Holmes Mysteries.

Those 4 books complete the first arc, I’m currently planning the next quartet – The Kensington Quartet – set in Europe during the Great War and explores the Asian experience in the conflict.

2.
