My favourite books of 2021 As part of the writing community, I get to read lots of books from relatively unknown authors. Let me tell you, this is such a pleasure and an honour. These days I find it difficult to pick up a traditionally published book after exploring the treasures in the world of self-publishing. From now until New Year’s Eve, I’m going to showcase my favourites. If your book is not on here, it doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy it. It’s been a very difficult decision choosing these books! They’re also not in any particular order. Right, is that all my disclaimers out of the way with? I hope so! The Shendri Series by E. P. Stavs My TikTok Review The Shendri Series comprises four books. Each focusing on a different Shendri. Technically, I started this series in 2020, but since I finished it in 2021 it had to appear on my favourites. What really captured my attention (and heart) in the series is the Shendri themselves. Each one is so very different, but all are wonderful modern role models.\u00a0The Shendri must connect with their inner celestial beasts to fight. Overall, I found the books to be so easy to read. E. P. Stavs’ writing style just flows off the page and immediately pulls you into the story. It was simply wonderful. The Marked Princess (Book One) I loved this book so much. A magical princess, a forbidden love and an adventure. The Marked Princess is a wonderful YA fantasy romance. I really enjoyed the story and the characters. The fearless princess, Josselyn, is a great lead – strong and independent. She knows her herd and (eventually) her heart and she won’t back down against opposition. A thoroughly enjoyable read. I also really loved that the chapters were short, left me promising myself just one more chapter! The Searching Songbird (Book Two) This is the second in the series from E.P. Stavs and it really did not disappoint. Lily was a wonderfully balanced character with hidden depths and a real female inspiration. The story itself was exciting, fast-paced and left me unable to put the book down. The author has a wonderful balance of mystery, action, suspense and romance. I love the concept of the series and I cannot wait for the third book to be released! The Unclaimed Wolf (Book Three) This is the third book in the Shendri Series and possibly my favourite. Each and every one of these books has been magical, and Stavs has hooked me from the first few pages. The Unclaimed Wolf follows the story of Maya, the wolf Shendri. Edward is sent to find the wolf and bring her back to Eldour. However, Edward gets a little more than he bargained for when Maya breaks his nose on their first encounter. Can this bad ass duo save everyone from Bade? I loved the sassy conversation between Maya and Edward. The characters and worlds in Satvs’ books really come alive. Everything is so beautifully described, and the story feels like it naturally unfolds as you read. There’s also shocking twist towards the end of the book! I’m beyond excited for the next book. I cannot wait to see these strong warrior Shendri come together. The Moonlit Warrior (Book Four) I have loved every second of The Shendri Series. Picking up Book 4 was bittersweet. As much as I wanted to know what happened, I didn’t want it to end! The Moonlit Warrior was everything I wanted it to be and still left me wanting more. I was prepared to dislike Fia and yet she quickly became my favourite Shendri! Underneath the epic fantasy storyline, Fia’s story is one of a girl finding herself, her confidence, and love. There was something very touching and real about Fia. The writing is simply wonderful. You’re immediately pulled into the magical world. The Moonlit Warrior was my favourite of The Shendri Series, and I’m very excited to see what the author writes next! Who is this series for? Whilst The Shendri Series is classified as young adult, I believe anybody could pick up these books and enjoy them. Filled with celestial beasts, romance, heartbreak, friendship, family, and battles, there’s truly something for everyone. With their witty banter, relatable qualities, strong and independent mindsets, these Shendri warriors are a force to be reckoned with. Where can you find E. P.
