Author Q&A with Amelia Rucker

Amelia Rucker was born on October 19, 1994. Even as a small child, her imagination became her inspiration for writing at the age of seven. At the age of ten, Amelia became a prolific playwright until the age of seventeen, Amelia wrote her first novel. Amelia is the oldest of six kids and currently serving in the military. Amelia’s main goal as a Christian author is to reach out to readers with the empowering messages in them.

1. Tells us about your writing/ published book(s).

I am currently working on my eleventh novel. This will be my first New Adult romance , but the last book of a project that I initiated back in 2020.

2. Where’s your favourite place to write?

I mainly love to write in my bedroom. The bedroom is also my favorite place to be intimate with God.

3. What’s your favourite genre to read?

Romance, Young Adult, and Literary Fiction

4. Have you always wanted to write?

Yes. As a child, I would be disappointed if I found a sheet of paper but no pen. If I found a pen but no paper, I would feel the same. I always had a love for books, so I wanted to create great books that didn’t end.

5. What do you do when you have writer’s block?

I basically listen to music, read, or watch cartoons.

6. Do you like reading the same books you write?

Absolutely. I get sometimes my inspiration from those books as well.

7. Do write under a pen name? If so, tell us about how you chose it.

Amelia Rucker is my government name, but once God allows my husband and I to become one, I will still keep my maiden names on my books. I see my books as a brand.

8. How do you choose your book’s title(s)?

Basically, I get my titles based on song titles as well as art work titles too. Sometimes, it can be a lyric that speaks to me as well that will gives me inspiration to come up with a beautiful masterpiece.

9. What advice would you give to someone wanting to write their first book?

You must write consistently. You must read what you like to write. Do your research. Never plagiarize. Network but also stay away from drama. Never give up, for writing a book is like running a marathon.

10. Do you do research for your books?If so, what kind of research?

Yes. Names for my characters but for my ninth novel, Can You Stand the Game, I researched alternative way for my heroine to become pregnant.

11. How do you fit writing into your everyday life?

I am military, so my day starts at 5:30 am until 2200 (10:00 p.m.). I hate being on my phone while at work, so I will have to start using that time to write a page or two. Time management is my huge responsibility. I try to at least knock out a chapter a day and not a week.

12. Tell me about your current work.

Well, as I stated earlier, this is the last book of a project I started on back in 2020. It will be my first New Adult Romance because my heroine along with her friends are eighteen minus two, who will be rising sophomores. My main theme for this book will be discovery, memories, friendship and love.

13. Tell me about your main character.

Aisha is an eighteen year old, who just finished high school, looks forward to spending time with her friends one last summer before going their separate ways. She even falls for a guy, who is four years older than her. She is just like me, for Aisha has a love for writing.

14. How many books do you own?

Over one thousand. This is for digital, print, and the ones I have that are waiting for ink to appear on the lines.

Always keep God first and seek first the Kingdom of Heaven. Do what you love. Love doing what you love with who you love.
