Author Q&A with S. J. Lomas (Alana Oxford)

S.J. Lomas is a cheerful Michigan girl who writes strange, and somewhat dark, fiction. She loves books so much that she not only writes them, but she became a librarian and a book reviewer. Her to-be-read pile is large enough to last several lifetimes, but she wouldn’t have it any other way.

What was your inspiration behind a book set at Christmas?

Christmas usually offers people some extra time off from work to relax (hopefully!) and enjoy some time to themselves. Winter Chills came about as a collaboration with 3 other authors I’d met on Twitter. We thought it would be fun to collaborate and what better than Christmas stories? The twist was that we’d write holiday stories with a ghostly theme. It turned out to be a lot of fun and I’m really proud of the book.

What’s your favourite scene in your book?

This particular book features two of my holiday themed short ghost stories. The Carolers is my favorite of the two. I can’t explain my favorite scene without giving away the twist, but that story really means a lot to me.

Does your MC like Christmas, dislike Christmas, or are they indifferent?

The MC for my short story, The Holiday Party, Marcy, likes Christmas a lot, but she’s nervous traveling with her boyfriend, Nick, to the annual Christmas party with his oldest friends. They live all over the country so she hasn’t met them before and she’s about to have the biggest shock of her life when they arrive.

What’s your favourite book set at Christmas?

I LOVE Christmas at Frozen Falls by Kiley Dunbar. It’s an absolutely charming second chance romcom that takes place in Finnish Lapland. Everything about it is an absolute treat.

If you could spend Christmas Day with any of your characters who would it be and why?

I would love to spend Christmas Day with James from my upcoming romance, Scotsman in the Stacks, written as Alana Oxford. He’s the Scotsman, need I say more?
