Book Title: The Awkward Armadillo

Genre: Nonfiction/ Memoir

1. Tell me about your writing/published book.

“The Awkward Armadillo” is a memoir focused on mental health. I spent on and off three years working on my book. My memoir is my personal journey through the odd events of life and dealing with my own mental health. It is my story, and I partake in voicing the truth with mental health and with humor throughout.

 

2. What’s your favourite genre to read?

I absolutely love reading fantasy, YA, memoirs, and I am expanding my typical genres and diving into psychological thrillers.

 

3. Do you write under a pen name? If so, tell us how you chose it?

When I wrote “The Awkward Armadillo” I knew for a fact I wanted to use a pen name. There are some parts within the book that are revealing, regardless of the humor. I wanted to protect my family and my identity. I chose the name Aimee, not because of anything special other than that I really liked how the name was spelled out vs the traditional “Amy” regarding my pen name’s last name. “Larson” is my grandmother’s maiden name. She passed away back in 2018 and always tried to get me to enjoy reading, despite my struggles with reading and speech back when I was a kid. 

 

4. How many books do you own?

Paperback, Hard Cover or ebook? Paperback I perhaps own about 20. Hardcover only about 30, and ebook…I would easily say over a hundred. I live in a small condo, so as much as I would love to have 200+ paperback and hardcover books, I can not at least not yet. 

 

5. Have you always wanted to write?

Back in middle school, I dove into writing poetry. In high school, I simply stopped and never dove further into it. I always wanted to end up writing, but honestly, felt I was not good enough or no way could I put my thoughts into words well enough for people to get into. So short answer yes, I have always wanted to write. As of right now though, I am working hard and trying to do my best to see if I could be a full-time writer someday. Right now though, I work full-time in an office role recruiting for mechanics, engineers, general laborers, etc. for a variety of clients that we have. This does take up a lot of my time during the week, but I am confident and I want to make writing a career. 

 

6. Do you like reading the same books you write?

I absolutely feel it is important to do so. So you can grasp and get an idea of what is out there and what kind of writing fits to your reading preference. Do you prefer 1st person or 3rd person? Do you want a very indepth and technical magical system? Or are you more of an urban fantasy type of reader. I feel it is important to know what exactly is out in the book market and how you can make your book different.
